THE CAT BEHIND THE TICKER
Okay, who is this little guy?
The spinning cat is Ethel. Know Your Meme records owner correspondence tracing the photograph to January 2019, then a Bilibili spinning edit on April 12, 2023. The repeating sound and rotation became a remix format. The OIIAOIIA Solana token is a later, separate project.
WHY THIS CAT STUCK
You hear the picture before you read the ticker.
Ethel spins to a nonsense vocal loop. Know Your Meme traces the spinning edit to Bilibili in April 2023 and documents later music remixes. Our read: changing the soundtrack gives people an easy way to make the same joke their own.
